Meet the Artist

Jan Marie Sessler has been creating art in Todos Santos since 2007. She has exhibited widely including exhibitions in Mexico, the United States, Austria, Guatemala and Namibia via the U.S. Art in Embassies Program. Jan Marie has studied art at the University of New Mexico, the School of Visual Arts in New York and in Aix-en-Provence, France. Her work is in the permanent collections of the Harwood Museum of Art in Taos, New Mexico, Taos Historic Museums, the Ross Art Museum/Ohio Wesleyan University and the Dayton Art Institute.

In her art, Sessler creates using an intuitive approach and a primarily abstract style. Her paintings reflect this intuitive flow. In her mixed media and collage works she often incorporates found objects including pages from old books, vintage paper, discarded objects and other mysterious ephemera, and has collected her intriguing finds for years. These elements form subtle layers in her pieces. In her sculptural work, Jan Marie repurposes her found objects, packing materials and old containers from which emerge unique works, seen in a new light. She admires the softening and transforming effects of nature and feels inspired by the dialogue between nature and human culture as time evolves.
