Art has its own language much like music. It can be mysterious at times, share insights, feeling, sensation, and memory. Reaching into deeper levels to see what happens. There is joy and freedom in making the something invisible or fleeting come to life. And a joy in sharing it.
Sculptures in Nature
Inspired by materials found in nature, I work to transform, communicate and expand imagery, leading to a sense of reflection. Working with organic materials, I discover that nature herself is our first artist, offering many models of beauty, shape, proportion, texture and design. The vessels are a natural symbols of passage, and suggest imaginary journeys of the spirit. I hope this work encourages one to think a more about our relationship to ‘nature’.
The Palm Vessels utilize organic materials, each one as unique as nature is. Sails are made with linen flax, bark, cotton and/or indigo dyed handmade paper. Perote oiled wood for a base. Additional rocks, shells, stem pods, bamboo buttons, seaweed, willow, jute, waxed thread or driftwood pieces may be used.
